Topekan David Samuels, the defending track champion, has three wins and a second-place finish in five races to open the 2011 Super Saturday Showdown Series season, but still sits second in the Factory Stock point standings.

According to Samuels that shows just how tough the class is going to be.

"We've got guys our here that are going to run good week-in and week-out and they're going to finish,'' Samuels said. "Last year I did not have a DNF all year and that was the deciding factor at the end of the year.''

The one race that Samuels hasn't finished first or second this season came when he experienced a flat tire while leading late in the race.

"You can't do anything about it,'' Samuels said. "There was something on the track I ran over and it sliced the tire almost all the way around it. I didn't rub anybody, I didn't get into anybody. It was just fate.''

Right now that misfortune is the difference between leading the points and sitting second.

"You can't not finish and cutting a tire down late in a race and finishing 11th gave the guys an opportunity to jump on me and they did,'' Samuels said. "You've got to have a full 15 laps in this class and if you don't somebody will sneak up on you.''

Given his successful run in Factory Stock, Samuels wouldn't mind stepping up in class at some point.

"You always want to try and move up and do something different, but money's the factor in that,'' Samuels said. "If sponsors and finances change maybe I could make a move and go up.''

In the meantime, Samuels is having fun right where he's at.

"The day I quit having fun I'll quit.''
