SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: KYLE COVERT
Twenty-year-old Kyle Covert is in his third year in the hotly-contested Modified division in the Super Saturday Showdown Series and continues to take steps forward.
Now Covert is to the point where he wants to take the biggest step, and visit victory lane.
“I feel like we'll get at least one win this year,'' said Covert, a Shawnee Heights graduate. “Last year we came close a few different times and it never happened but I think this year we'll be able to get a win finally.''
Covert is currently sixth in Modified points and has been in the top seven five times and the top five twice, with a season-best of third.
“I feel a lot more comfortable, especially as well as we ended off the season last year,'' Covert said. “You've got to know when you can push it to the limit and when you need to ease up.''
Covert's not sure yet if he'll race for the championship at HPT this season, with his only goal to get that elusive first victory. But if things continue to go well, he may change his mind.
“I don't think we're really going to race for points but later in the season we'll see how well we're doing in points and then if we're even close to the top five or something we might try to compete.''
