Topekan Dustin Thulin, who competes in the B Modifed class in Heartland Park's Super Saturday Showdown Series, has raced for awhile now, but if early-season results are any indication, 2011 has a chance to be a career year.

"We've had some good things go our way,'' Thulin said.

Thulin is currently deadlocked at the top of the B Modified division with Brian Murphy as he tries to break new ground in his racing career.

"I have never won a track championship,'' Thulin said. "We'd love to do that. It's definitely a goal of ours and we're going to take a shot at it if we can stay in it this year. We're going to make a run for it.''

Thulin posted a top-10 points finish in 2010 and said that consistency will be the key all season.

Fortunately, that has been a strong suit for Thulin in the early going.

"Even when we've had bad nights with flat tires we've been able to come back and make a top-10 out of it and just finishing is the biggest key for us and making sure we go home every night loading it up in once piece,'' he said.

"If we can stay on the same path and just keep finishes up and finish towards the front I think we'll be all right.''

Of course, Thulin knows that will continue to be a challenge in a B Mod class that regularly draws a large field.

"You've got 41 guys showing up and they all want to win,'' Thulin said. "It feels good to be at the top at the end of the night but it's not easy, that's for sure.''
