HPT.Com Speedway To Honor Our Service Men & Women This Weekend

Topeka, KS - It doesn't matter who you are are where you have been for the past 10 years. The tragedy of 9/11 still remains in our thoughts and prayers on a daily basis. This Sunday will mark the 10th anniversary of tragedy and HPT.Com Speedway will recognize this event by honoring our Public Service employees.

Military, Law Enforcement, Fire Department or whatever public service department you are from, bring your ID badge and receive a free admission to this week's BriggsAuto.Com Super Saturday Showdown Series race #20.

All season long the racing action has been hotly contested. This weekend will be no different. Some fans maybe wondering why this event is on the schedule now? This event is the makeup of the water main break race night that was postponed about a month ago. Officials decided with this weekend open it would be a good time to get this event in.

Barring any unforeseen weather in the near future it's possible that HPT.Com Speedway can go the entire 2011 race season without losing a single race. This is a tough feat to accomplish in this day and age. Hard work, a well prepped track and asphalt pits are just a few reasons why it's hard for HPT to rain out.

On the track this week, drivers will be logging some more laps towards the 2011 championship.

Dave Samuels rolled to his 4th straight win in the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stock division. Samuels has a total of 10 wins on the season, but last week's victory leap frogged him over Steve Herrick for the points lead. Herrick will have to rebound strong this week if he wants to chip away at Samuels 18 point lead.

The Factory Stocks also celebrated their largest car count of the season last week. Twenty-six competitors made it out last week and it was also the first time that a B Feature was needed in the division.

One of the best races last week came in the White Line CDL Training B Mod class. Points leader Dalton Kirk showed poise and patience as he chased the leader, Dustin Thulin around the track for 13 laps. At the end of the 13 lap, Thulin came off the bottom of the race track and Kirk slid into the top spot at the white flag. The two went side by side until the final turn where Kirk gained the advantage and his 5th win of the season.

Just 3 races remain and Kirk is leading the 2nd place competitor, Mike Higley, by 11 points. It was some concern that Mike Higley might miss this weekends race, but it appears that he could be back in time to compete and shoot it out on Saturday night with Kirk.

Darron Fuqua holds the larges margin of any point leaders at HPT.Com Speedway. Currently, Fuqua has over a 100 point cushion on the rest of the competition. As long as he continues to make the rest of the A Mains in the division, he will likely become the 2011 Modified Champion, but as we have seen in the past weird things can happen.

Steven Bowers Jr. won his 5th Modified feature last Saturday night. He, like several other drivers, are trying to improve their positions in the point standings. Winning can most definitely help.

In the Casey's General Store Pure Stock division it's Zach Henery putting on win after win. Last Saturday night was Henery's 14th win of the season. It doesn't look like he will be slowing down anytime soon. A points championship has been on his mind since night #1 this season.

Spectator gates will open up at 5:30 p.m., hot laps are scheduled for 6:15 p.m. and the racing action goes green at 7 p.m.

Adult tickets are $10 and kids 12 and under are $5.
