Even though Hiawatha racer Gerald Wahwahsuck isn’t going to win the Factory Stock championship at Heartland Park this season, he’s thrilled with the year he’s had and can’t wait to get started on 2012.
Despite missing several races, Wahwahsuck has won twice in the Super Saturday Showdown Series and is sitting a solid third in points behind David Samuels and Steve Herrick.
“I’ve had an awesome year this year,’’ Wahwahsuck said. “This is the best year I’ve ever had.’’
Samuels and Herrick are battling it out for the track championship but Wahwahsuck feels like he’s been a factor in the class all season and has enjoyed the competition.
“Those guys are great and I enjoy racing against them,’’ Wahwahsuck said. “And I feel pretty proud that I can even keep up with them and have my name associated with them.
“I’ve been pretty consistent with my finishes. I think I’ve missed four races this season and if I hadn’t missed those races I think I could have been up there with those two battling for the points lead.’’
Wahwahsuck’s main focus now is on closing out the year strong.
“I want to finish in third and that’s going to be my best points finish ever,’’ he said. “My two feature wins are my best season ever. I still feel like I can pick up one more feature win this year. I’m still trying.’’
With that said, Wahwahsuck is already excited about what next season could hold.
“I’ve already got plans and changes I want to do,’’ he said.
