Luck Of The Irish Needed As Only Two Points Races Remain
Topeka, KS ˆ The racing action at HPT.Com Speedway has been fast and furious all season long. In 2012 fans and racers have seen their fair share of great racing. Only two events remain counting this weekend, so that means if you are going to make a move in the points or you just want to pick up a win, YOU BETTER GET MOVING. Time is almost gone.
Saturday night at the track will mark 6 months before St. Patrick's Day. Green beers will be on tap for just a buck, several games and great prizes will be awarded on Saturday night. Several drivers might even be calling on the luck of the Irish, to get them a win.
It seems just like yesterday we were getting ready for event #1 on the season and in the blink of an eye we are down to the final two.
Leading into last week, the points battles in Super 8 @ Forbes Landing Factory Stocks and the White Line CDL Training B Mods were the races to watch. This week they will still be the closest points battles on the track, but the leaders left last week with a slight advantage.
In the Factory Stock division Dave Samuels held an 18 point lead heading into last week's race. After the last feature, Samuels now has a 21 point lead on Herrick with 2 races to go. The fans might have been looking at the top 2 in points, but another driver stole the show last week, Gerald Wahwahsuck.
Wahwahsuck took in this 3rd win of the season and he did it in impressive fashion. He drove around the early leader, Lucas Conely, and then raced his way to another win.
Just like in the Factory Stock division the Whiteline CDL Training B Mods had a lot of attention on Dalton Kirk and Mike Higley. Kirk held an 11 point lead last week and after the race he left with an 18 point cushion. Neither driver had a good outing either. Kirk was involved in an early crash and putted around the track to gain points, while Mike Higley was sent off the speedway for an apparent infraction in the hot pit.
At the front of the pack last week was Dylan Whitehead. Whitehead gained his first career B Mod win last week. He has been fast all year and it was only inevitable before he got win number 1 at it came last week. Whitehead is a former Hobby Stock track champion at HPT.Com Speedway and he is no stranger to victory lane.
The Washburn Tech Modifieds saw an outstanding two man race up front between Kerry Davsis and Grant Junghans.
At the beginning of the race Davis held to the bottom of the track and the lead until Junghans went by him on the high side. In a reversal of fortune, Junghans would go to the bottom with the lead only to get passed back on the high side by Davis. It was Davis's 2nd win on the season,
Zach Henery continued his complete domination in the Casey's General Store Pure Stock division as he wins race number 15 on the season. HPT Officials are digging in the archives, but this has to be one of the best individual seasons ever, for any driver in any division.
All this leads up to the excitement you will see on the track this weekend. The racing action will be just as fierce as it has been all season long. Points positions in each of the classes are still up for grabs, so you don't want to miss any of the action from heat races to features.
Spectator gates open up at 5:30 p.m., hot laps are scheduled for 6:15 p.m. and the racing gets going at 7:00 p.m.
Adult tickets are $10 and $5 for kids.
