The 2011 dirt track season hasn’t been the year Tyson Young was looking for.
But the Americus Factory Stock driver, who said he’s been “disappointed’’ by the way things have gone in the Super Saturday Showdown Series, is trying to put that disappointment in the rearview mirror while also getting ready for 2012.
“We came out with a brand new car this year and we missed the first few races because the motor wasn’t ready,’’ Young said. “And then we’ve probably had three, four, five DNFs. The transmission broke, we’ve wrecked.
“This is just not the year I expected to have. I thought we’d be up there in the top three battling it out for the points.’’
Young is coming off a sixth-place showing in last Saturday’s race and will be trying to close out the season with a bang in the final points race of the year this week.
“I’d definitely like to win one by the end of the year and put myself in a position to go into next year really strong,’’ Young said. “That’s the plan right now.’’
Young would also like to finish in the top five in Factory Stock points.
He’s in fifth heading into Saturday’s race, but is just one point ahead of Matt Field.
“That’s been one of my goals, to get in the top five,’’ Young said. “We definitely want that top five in points.’’
And with this season about over, Young is already in get-ready mode for next season.
“I’m already making a list and getting ready for next year,’’ he said. “That’s already on my mind.’’
