SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Korbynn Stallbaumer

SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Korbynn Stallbaumer

Wakarusa drag racer Korbynn Stallbaumer is in the same position she was in 2011, leading the Sportsman points  with just two rounds of Heartland Park's ET Bracket Racing Series remaining.

But after finishing a close second a year ago Stallbaumer is doing her best to take a low-key approach this time around.

"I try not to get wrapped up in it,'' Stallbaumer said. "If it happens, it happens. That's all (the announcers) ever talk about towards the end of these last races is the points, but I'm just out here to race and that's what I love to do.''

Stallbaumer fell to second in last year's final standings when Nick Siebert turned in a late-season rally, but she's tried to put that behind her.

"Last year stung a little bit, but it just wasn't meant to be,'' she said.

And while Stallbaumer would like to close out her title run this season she's got other things to keep her mind off racing until the time comes to take the track.

Stallbaumer is getting ready for her junior basketball season at the University of Saint Mary and has high hopes for that season as well.

"I think we're going to be better than we were last year,'' Stallbaumer said.
