Topeka, KS - Tyler Garst's knowledge of hockey may not be as strong as other mainstream sports. A hat trick is a term that is given to a player that scores 3 goals in one game.  Saturday night at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway, Garst achieved his own 'hat trick' by winning his 3rd straight feature of 2013.

No matter how you look at it, Garst is a driver that is coming into his own. His run in 2013 is tough to explain but Garst has a good idea of where it's coming from.

"The year of experience that I got last year, really helped me out," said Garst after this 3rd straight win, "I am trying to be smooth and hit my lines. Other than that, it's dad's (Scott Garst) setups that he's got going with it."

Saturday night Garst started on the front of the Casey's General Store Pure Stock Feature event and from the drop of the green flag he took complete control.

"I just wanted to make sure I hit my lines," said Garst, "I knew that Darrin (Christy) was back there, he's a tough competitor. I knew that running with him last week and running with him tonight in the heat race that he has a good race car. I wanted to get off the corners and smooth as possible and it all worked out."

Garst ran a good race from start to finish. A couple of yellow flags would bunch the field back up, but Garst would re-establish his dominance as the race would fire back up.

Three wins in a season is an accomplishment. Three wins in the first 3 races has Garst excited about the rest of the season. The current record for most wins in a single season is 16,  set by Zach Henery just a couple of seasons ago in the Pure Stock class. Will Garst be thinking about this record.

"I want it, but that's going to be difficult," said Garst, "We got my cousin Robert coming out next week and he's got a pretty good car and there is a lot of good cars out here. It's going to be anybody's ballgame, we just have luck on our side right now."

Darrin Christy would finish in the runner-up spot for the 2nd straight week, 3rd went to Byron Glotzbach, Darren Davenport bounced back this week to finish and AJ Christian drove to a 5th place finish.

The White Line CDL Training B Mod division saw it's first repeat winner of the season, Dave Samuels.

Samuels, who earned his first victory on opening night, blasted out to the front of the field from the pole position at the start of the feature. A large field of 35 racers checked in to race on Saturday night and when Samuels took to the track for the feature he know he had to be at his best.

"I feel pretty good, but I am going to stay humble," said Samuels after the win, "everything fell into my shoes tonight. I drew good, started on the front row of my heat and won and they redrew and I started on the pole of the feature and I saw the track was laying down a little bit of rubber and I decided to get to it first and go."

Samuels got to the front first and never let up on the competition. In his opening night win he had to come from 2nd to take the win on the last lap.

Tonight it was his turn to sit out front and see if anyone could knock him from the top spot.

"I HATE leading every lap," said Samuels, "I'd much rather be the hound than the rabbit."

On this night Samuels would not have to worry about being the rabbit. For the 15 laps of the feature, he would lead all 15 laps. The competition level in this class is second-to-none. The drivers competiting for the win gave each racer the fair amount of respect that each one deserved.

Jake Richards, the point leader, would settle for another 2nd place finish to Samuels, Ethan Isaacs would narrowly beat out Bryan Rigsby for 3rd and rounding out the top 5 was Rusty Trimble.

Ferrellgas Stock Car drivers were wondering if anyone was ever going to get into victory lane besides Terry Schmidt in 2013? Schmidt had won the first 2 races of the season and momentum and confidence were on his side.

The one thing that Schmidt needed to count on is that the other drivers in the class weren't going to just lay down for him on a weekly basis.

Saturday night a multiple feature winner in the Stock Car division, Steve Herrick, jumped up and showed everyone that he has still got it.

The feature event for the stock cars was the 3rd main event of the night and just like the first two, the driver who started on the pole position would win. Herrick stormed out to the lead, while Terry Schmidt, Travis Tenpenny and Brad Deery were knocking each other out trying to get to Herrick.

"The track was good, the car was good and my guys, it (his car) was a little tight in the heat race but they made it so it wasn't so tight and it worked for me," said Herrick.

During the season, Herrick has been working on making his car and himself better night in and night out. Having to compete with such strong competition is only making him work harder. In getting his first win, Herrick almost let it slip away late in the race.

As Herrick was enjoying a sizable lead, he got a little excited heading into turn two and he over-drove the car. It caused him to slide up the race track and it allowed for Deery to close the gap on Herrick. It made the race exciting in the end as Herrick had to hold off Deery. The two drivers would cross the line nose to tail with each other.

"It was getting toward the end of the race and it has been a long time since I have been in the winner's circle," said Herrick, "I just got excited and over drove it and it pushed up on me a little bit. I am glad that nobody was there.

Terry Schmidt, the winner of the season's first two races, finished in the 3rd position, Travis Tenpenny raced his way to a 4th place finish and Leif Weyer put together a strong fun finishing in 5th.

It would take 3 chances for the Washburn Tech Modifieds to get their feature event underway on Saturday night. Steven Bowers Jr. looked like the odds on favorite for taking home the top honors.

As the field finally took the green flag, Bowers would shoot out to the early lead. He would hold onto that lead until his blew out his left rear tire going into turn 3.

Tyler Schmidt would take over the top spot on the ensuing restart.

Schmidt, who won his 1st feature at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway last season, was in a prime spot for the win. At least that was tell last week's feature winner, Darron Fuqua, to rolling.

Fuqua, the 2x defending track champion, worked to the inside of Schmidt in turn 4 and made his move. Fuqua would become the new leader as they went by the flag stand. After taking over the lead, Fuqua would extend his lead over the rest of the field. Schmidt would keep somewhat close to him, as both would get into lapped traffic. In the end there wasn't anybody that was going to get by Fuqua on this night. The longer the race went on the faster he became on the track.

Schmidt would end up the night in the runner-up spot, racing two his 2nd top 5 finish of the night was Jake Richards, who finished 3rd, 4th went to opening night winner, Dalton Kirk, and Kerry Davis made another strong drive from deep in the field as he started 14th and finished 5th.

The 4th race of the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown gets underway next Saturday night, April 27. Spectators gates will open up at 5 p.m., hot laps will be at 6:15 p.m. and the first race goes green at 7 p.m.
