Topeka, KS – If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again. I think that’s how the old saying goes.

Saturday night in the 6th race of the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown, Bryon Glotzbach kept trying. His trying finally paid off as he took home his 1st career win the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock division.

It was just a few short weeks ago when Glotzbach pulled into victory lane, but after the post-race tech inspection he was disqualified. This Saturday night would be the one that didn’t get away from Glotzbach.

Starting inside the 5th row, things didn’t look good for Glotzbach at the beginning of the feature race, but once the green flag dropped everyone in the stands could tell that Glotzbach would be a contender. Darren Davenport would lead the feature early and looked as if this was going to be his night to break into the win column. Unfortunately for Davenport Tyler Garst and Glotzbach were on the move to the front of the field.

A sequence of yellow flags would continue to keep the field held tight throughout the feature. On a restart Davenport would push up the race track giving Garst enough momentum to slide into the top spot. Glotzbach also followed suit, going by Davenport and working his way into 2nd. Garst would maintain the lead and Glotzbach would roll a little closer to the front lap after lap. Turn #3 is where Glotzbach found enough bite to put a move on Garst that would take him to the lead out of turn #4. Garst would fight back and would suffer a huge setback as he would go up and brush the wall in turn #1. This was all that edge that Glotzbach would need to motor on to the win, after he passed through the post race tech inspection. It was Glotzbach’s 1st career win at HPT.

AJ Christian, who came in the night 2nd in points, finished in the 2nd spot, Darren Davenport held on for a 3rd place finish, 4th went to a hard charging Dylan McDonald and rounding out the top 5 was Randy Kohn.

A pair of feature winners in 2013 would bring the field to the green flag in the White Line CDL Training B Mod feature event, Dave Samuels and Dustin Thulin.

Samuels, a 2 time feature winner heading into the night, wasted no time jetting out to the early lead. It would be one of those strong night for Samuels as he would not relinquish the top spot at any point during the feature going on to his 3rd win of the season.

“This week, the whole SB Chassis was real good,” said Samuels, “… starting 7th in my heat and running up to 2nd and catching the invert started on the pole, you know someone is looking out for me on that one. I had to do a lot of work on me and a little on the car and get the package right and we’re getting there. We’re not there yet, but we’re getting there.”

Thulin would also boast a strong run finishing in the runner-up spot, Lance Lincoln celebrated his best finish with a 3rd, 4th went to last week’s feature winner, Ethan Isaacs and rounding out the top 5 was Lucas Isaacs.

It was another quick, clean and exciting feature in the Ferrellgas Stock Car A main event.

Tyler James, a feature winner from Humboldt Speedway, took to the early lead in the feature, but it wasn’t long before the regulars were nipping at this heals. Zach Henery would be the first driver to lay a challenge on the newcomer. Henery would work his way by for the lead and would extend his advantage in just a few laps. As Henery would extend his lead, it looked as if he was going to be headed to victory lane at the end of the night. Not so fast though, there is more to the story.

A week ago, a late race error by Steve Herrick kept him out of victory lane and this week would be a different story as he was on a mission. In the late running laps of this week’s main, Herrick slowly knocked off the advantage gained by Henery. The two drivers would go side by side at the flag stand as they took the white flag and neither had an advantage. Entering the 3rd turn on the final lap, Herrick would be a nose ahead and as they exited turn 4 Henery would push up the track and Herrick stayed on the bottom and won the drag race to the checkered flag. It would be redemption and the 2nd win on the season for Herrick.

“Everyone’s tough that starts up front (in the feature),” said Herrick, “We were just going to go out there and run the best race we could. A nice clean race and it ended up with a win. Last week was a little disappointing to me and to come back and win it was great. I can’t thank my crew enough, they get me out here and they turn me left and the car is really fast.”

Henery would settle for the runner-up spot, Tyler James would stay up front most of the race and finish in 3rd, 4th went to Eric Weyer and coming in with another top 5 finish this season was Tyson Young.

Darron Fuqua remained unbeatable at Heartland Park Topeka once again in the Washburn Tech Modified division.

For the 5th straight race Fuqua would win his heat race and feature. It kept his undefeated streak at HPT going. To start the night Fuqua ended up winning his heat from the front row and would have been starting in the 2nd row for the feature event, but an inversion drawn by a youngster in the crowd put the 87 of Fuqua back on the front row for the feature.

“I am just getting lucky,” said Fuqua, “This is the best hot rod I have ever set in and everything is going good right now and I am going to ride it out as long as it lasts.”

As the green flag dropped Fuqua would get to the front of the field and check out from there as he has done in the previous 4 features. Running consistent, smooth and quick times on the track he would hold off the competition. Several yellows in the late half of the feature gave other races a chance at Fuqua, but the driver from Mayetta stayed on his hot streak for yet another week.

Steve Bowers Jr. would again show his power and consistency by finishing in the 2nd spot, the driver 2nd in the point standings, Kerry Davis, made a couple of strong moves to finish in the 3rd position, Mike Higley, filling in for Josh Henery, drove Henery’s car to a 4th place finish and coming home in 5th was a hard charging Josh Everhart, who started 13th.

The action continues next week for the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown as it will be race #7 on the season.
