Heartland Park Topeka Jr. Dragster competitor Ruby DeGood paced Team Heartland Park in last weekend's NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colo., with DeGood claiming the championship in the 14-year-old class.

A past runner-up in the Western Conference Finals, DeGood, who lives in Kansas City, Mo., claimed her first Wally in the event Saturday, defeating Kaylee Chaffin of Clearwater, Kan.

Both DeGood and Chaffin broke out in the final round but DeGood's 8.376-second elapsed time was closer to her 8.39 dial than Chaffin's
8.005 on an 8.02 dial, giving DeGood the championship.

DeGood finished third in the Mile High Shootout earlier in the week.

DeGood's Team Heartland Park teammates, Chandler Brandenburg and Savana Bennett, also came home with awards from the Finals.

Brandenburg, competing in the 10-year-old class, and Bennett, competing in the 13-year-old division, both earned Closest to Dial awards for running closest to their dials on a winning run in the first round of competition.

Bennett placed third in the 13-year-old class of the Mile High Shootout and received top qualifier honors by cutting a perfect light in time trials.

Brandenburg was a semifinalist in the 9.90 index race.

Jr. Dragster competition will return to Heartland Park on July 13 and 14.
