Topeka, KS – Every now and then tragedy strikes in someone's life and they have to deal with it. This weekend the Bowers family and Heartland Park Topeka will come together to honor a local racer that meant a lot to the racing community.
Saturday night, July 6, the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown will host the 4th Annual Steve Bowers Sr. Memorial Race at Heartland Park Topeka's Dirt Track. Extra money will be on the line in all classes and it will be topped off by a $1,000 to win Modified feature! The action will get underway at 7 p.m. and it will be some of the best dirt track racing in the Midwest!

Steven Bowers Sr. was a longtime racer in the area. He drove everything from Street Stocks to B Mods and enjoyed every minute of it. Bowers gave everything he had to the sport of dirt track racing and he also didn't mind lending a helping hand to others that were involved in the sport. His wife, Vicky, and two sons, Steven Jr. and Bryan, all share the same passions as Steve for the sport and have emulated what they learned from him.

In 2009 Steve past away in a racing accident at an area track. It was a blow to the racing community that was like no other. Friends and family were all left hurting and looking for help. Steve's family decided that they would provide some comfort to the racing community by holding an annual race in Steve's honor. The Bowers family made sure 'Big' Steve's legacy lived on through an annual race that would give racers and fans something extra. The race not only gives extra cash back to the racers, but it also gave the fans an exciting event to watch on the track. This annual event has seen many different winners and several fantastic finishes over the years. This season's event shouldn't be any different.

The Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown has been phenomenal all season long. Dominating performances, first time winners, last lap passes and more have been just a few of the characteristics that have made this weekly series great. As extra money is placed on the line for Saturday's event, look for some new faces to show up and try their luck.

Darron Fuqua has continued his domination of the Washburn Tech Modified division by winning his 7th feature out of 9 in 2013. Last week Fuqua got out to the front and poured it on to the finish. Week after week the pressure begins to mount on Fuqua. Can he keep up this torrid pace? Can he avoid mechanical issues? Will there be a new 'heavy hitter' that comes in and gives Fuqua a run? These are just a few questions that fans have been thinking about heading in to this $1,000 to win feature on Saturday night. Fans should expect the best out of all the Modified drivers that compete this weekend.

The White Line CDL Training B Mods watched their 5th different winner of the season drive in to victory lane last Saturday night. Brian Murphy drove to his 1st win of the season. It appears that after sitting out the first few events that Murphy has knocked the rust off and should be in contention every race night. The competition is getting stronger each week and new faces are popping in to the top 5! Jake Richards is still on top of the point standings and he has yet to win a feature! That fact, alone, should tell you how tough it is in this division.

Zach Henery took home the win in the Ferrellgas Stock Car feature for the 2nd straight week last Saturday night. Henery was declared the winner after Clint Hedge was disqualified in post-race tech. The Stock Car class continues to grow each week, as new cars start to show up. Steve Herrick is currently the leader in the point standings, but Henery is cutting into that lead on a weekly basis.

A whopping total of 6 different drivers have taken home wins in the Casey's General Store Pure Stock division. Last week Byron Glotzbach pulled in his 2nd win of the season. Glotzbach joins Tyler Garst as the only drivers who have won multiple features in this division. Last Saturday night a strong field of 20 Pure Stocks put on yet another great race that went down the the wire. Look for this action to continue this weekend too. The points race in this division is beginning to heat up too. Glotzbach is now trailing the leader, Garst, by a mere 12 points and we haven't even reached the halfway mark of the season.

Saturday night the spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m., hot laps will start at 6:15 p.m. and the first race will go green at 7:00 p.m.

Adult tickets are $12.00, kids 4 through 12 are $6.00 and children 3 and under are free at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway.
