At 60 years old, veteran Topeka dirt track racer Bob Troutwine may be a older than many of his fellow Stock Car competitors in Heartland Park Topeka's Saturday Showdown Series.
But Troutwine is proving this season that he can go wheel to wheel with most anybody in his class, putting together a solid 2013 campaign.
Entering Saturday's race Troutwine is sitting fifth in Stock Car points in the familiar 1N1 entry.
"I'm having a pretty fair year,'' Troutwine said. "It's not an easy group. Those guys are good drivers and they've got a lot of money in their cars.''
Troutwine is happy that he's been able to remain competitive in the Stock Car division, but said his main objective is to enjoy himself.
"It doesn't matter whether I win or I lose out here,'' Troutwine said. "I've just wanted to have fun for all the years I've raced. That's what it's all about.''
Troutwine, who said he's been racing for 37 or 38 years, said there's been times that he's thought about stepping out of the driver's seat, but he couldn't make himself leave the sport he loves.
"I thought about getting out, but I just enjoy it too much. This is all I do (as a hobby).''
