Topeka, KS – Have you ever had the feeling you had seen something before that was happening right in front of your eyes? That’s what it felt like for the 15th race of the season at the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Super Saturday Showdown at Heartland Park Topeka’s Dirt Track.

Every feature winner from the prior week took home the top honors again this week.

The night got started with Robert Garst storming the competition in the Casey’s General Store Pure Stock division. Unlike last week, Garst, had some work to do before he got the win.

Last week Garst started from the front row and won easily going away. This week would be different as he started inside the 4th row because of the fan invert for the feature event lineup.

During the early laps Garst found himself as far back as 8th place, but he wouldn’t stay there for long. Lap by lap he would find his groove and began to pick off the competition one by one.

Darren Davenport and Randy Kohn were sharing a good battle for the top spot. The two battled back in forth, but their reckoning was coming in the form of Garst.

Garst roared by the 3rd place car of David McDonald and then Kohn. His sights were set on Davenport.

Davenport would not go quietly on this night. He would hold off Garst for a few laps, but in his fight with Garst, Davenport would not only give up the lead but Kohn would sneak by for 2nd.

Garst looked like he did one week ago as he got to the front of the field. He would speed off for his 2nd straight win and 3rd on the season.

Kohn finished 2nd, 3rd went to Davenport, 4th was David McDonald and Lafe Garst came home in 5th.

The White Line CDL Training B Mods was chalked full of drama and excitement.

Heath Murry has seen his chances for a win this year. You can almost say that fate is dealing him a raw blow as he sees the checkered flag first but he can never make it to the finish.

Jake Richards, the points leader, had some trouble with his car in the heat race and had to borrow a car for the feature which meant that he would have to go to the rear of the field. In the blink of an eye Richards laid down a run to put him into the 2nd spot and in prime position for the win.

Richards waited for his move to get by Murry. The opportunity just hadn’t presented itself to Richards. One thing for sure was that he was coming sooner or later.

Late in the race Richards felt that his time to make the move was upon him. As the two went around the track. Richards pulled even with Murry only to see Murry slam the door on his advance. Heading into turn 1, Richards car would jump out from under him and he would spin bringing out the yellow and ruining his chance for the win.

On the restart Murry took back off into the lead and it looked like he would finally pick up that elusive win. Unfortunately for Murry fate would deal him another blow to the mid-section.

As Murray was coming to the white flag something went wrong on his B Mod and he slowed, allowing the field to catch him, and pulled to the infield.

Last week’s winner, Jeremy Chambers, and Nic Bennett proceeded to shoot it out on the final lap for supremacy.

Chambers would win the 1 lap battle and picked up his 2nd straight win. It would be his 14th win of the season for Chambers and his 3rd this season at HPT.

Nic Bennett finished in 2nd, Jake Richards, came for a 2nd time from the rear to finish 3rd in 6 laps, 4th went to Lucas Isaacs, who started 16th in the feature, and rounding out the top 5 was Casey Meggison.

When you are in a tight points battle there is one thing that will ensure that you stay in the front of the competition, just win.

Steve Herrick and Zach Henery having been going at it over this past season for the chance of winning their first titles in the Ferrellgas Stock Car division. Herrick’s lead was just 20 points a few weeks ago and after his 2nd straight win Saturday night he now leads by 33 points with 5 races left.

Herrick started from the pole position on Saturday night and at the drop of the green flag he was gone.

Herrick’s car worked flawlessly on the track. Lap after lap he turned in consistent lap times and hit his marks. Herrick found a good time in the season to be performing at his best.

Henery, on the other hand, had to start further back in the field again this week. Also like one week ago he took care of business getting to the 2nd position, but in having to deal with all the traffic the lead built up by Herrick was just to big.

Herrick’s win was his 2nd in consecutive weeks.

The final feature of the night was the Washburn Tech Modified class.

The two team cars of Steven Bowers Jr. and Kerry Davis would start on the front row of this 25 lap main event.

Davis would come into the night trailing Darron Fuqua by just 18 points in the standings and his night would be even more challenging as he had to jump into Bowers’ back up car. A crash the night before in his primary car would keep him from participating in it.

The green flag waved and the top 2 cars got away from the field. Bowers and Davis would almost run side by side for the entire feature. Bowers would get the drop on Davis and get to the front.

As those two battled at the top spot. Jay Bailey, Dalton Kirk, Jarred Rogers and Darron Fuqua tried to keep pace.

A 4th place finish in his heat race, meant a 5th row outside starting spot in the feature. Having to work by several cars would be a tough task.

The battle for 3rd through 6th place was a tight one, but the leaders were getting further away each lap.

Only one yellow flag would hinder this race. Bowers and Davis continued to streak around the track lap after lap. As they came to the final laps, lapped traffic began to loom ahead and it would be a perfect opportunity for Davis to pounce on Bowers.

On the final lap Bowers would have a tough time deciding which way to go around a lapped car. Davis saw his chance and moved to the inside of Bowers on the final corner. The two would come off turn 4 door to door, but it would be Bowers who would win the drag race to the finish.

Bowers rounded out the night making sure there were all repeat winners from a week ago.

Davis finished 2nd and ate away into the points lead a little more as the lead is down to 13 points, Fuqua finished in the 3rd spot after starting 10th, 4th was Jay Bailey and Dalton Kirk put together a strong 5th place finish.

Next week the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown is on hiatus and will return August 31st.
