SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Ethan Isaacs

SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Ethan Isaacs

After winning the B Mod track championship last season in Heartland Park Topeka's Saturday Showdown dirt track series, 2013 got off to a rough start for Ethan Isaacs.
The Bonner Springs racer has been in a catch-up position ever since.
"We got off to a slow start,'' Isaacs said. "We got crashed opening night and destroyed our brand new race car. A couple of weeks later we put in a brand new engine and it blew up in 10 laps, so we had a couple of DNFs and that really cost us to start this season.''
Isaacs recovered to put himself back in position to challenge for the championship, getting as close as 30 points to points leader Jake Richards, but problems in back-to-back races have pushed him back to third in the standings with five races remaining in the season. Isaacs is 25 points behind second-place Dustin Thulin while Richards has opened up a commanding 116-point advantage.
Isaacs said that in racing you have to learn to accept the bad with the good.
"It if wasn't work it wouldn't be so much fun,'' he said.
Isaacs' goal now is just to put himself in a position to win races.
"Points are just numbers,'' he said. "If we keep winning races then the points will take care of themselves.''
And no matter how the season turns out, Isaacs plans to be back in the B Mod class against next season.
"It's tough. You can race against the best of the best right here,'' Isaacs said.
