FW: Bowers Wins Mod Feature, Takes Over Points Lead

Topeka, KS - The temperature at Heartland Park's Dirt Track finally reached a boiling point and Saturday night. All four divisions provided the die-hard fans with some of the best entertainment of the season.
It was a story of ups and downs in the Washburn Tech Modified division.
Steven Bowers Jr. came into Saturday night's race on a hot streak. Bowers had won 3 of the last 4 features and he was looking to build on his strong success. Not only had he won but Bowers had also moved to 3rd in the points behind Darron Fuqua and Kerry Davis.
Bowers started from the 4th position in the feature and wasted no time getting to the front of the field. Here he would battle with the early leader, Justin Johnson, for the top spot. It wouldn't take long as Bowers was able to get by Johnson and drive away from the competition. A couple of late race yellows would come out and evaporate the lead that Bowers maintained.
Late in the race Josh Everhart would give chase in the runner-up spot, but just couldn't get over the hump of getting to the top spot.
The feature would go into overtime as a green, white, checkered restart was required to finish the main event.
Johnson and Everhart were given one last opportunity to overthrow the leader, but in the end it would be Bowers scooting to his 4th win in the last 5 races at HPT.
Everhart finished 2nd, 3rd went to Johnson, pole-setter, Ryan Phillips, finished in the 4th position and Kerry Davis came home in 5th.
As an added bonus at the end of the night, Bowers scored enough points to take over the lead in the Modified standings. A two time champion, Bowers, might have sealed the deal for #3. Kerry Davis and Darron Fuqua now find themselves in a tie for 2nd with 4 races remaining.
Another strong points battle is brewing in the Ferrellgas Stock Car ranks.
Steve Herrick, the current leader, is trying to fend off the challenger, Zach Henery, for the title. The two drivers came into the night 1st and 2nd in the points and they both gave the fans a good show on Saturday night.
In the previous weeks Henery would find a starting position near the back half of the field. Saturday night he was able to put his hot rod on the front row for the feature event.
At the drop of the green flag Henery blasted to the point position. Ken Garcia, Herrick and Clint Hedge would give chase early, but Henery was the class of the field.
The reigning points leader, Herrick, would make up some ground during the feature event. Herrick stormed past Garcia and set his sights on Henery.
A late race yellow would set Herrick to make a run once again at Henery, but it wouldn't happen. Henery met the challenge and went on to his 5th win of the season in the Stock Car class.
Herrick maintained his points lead by finishing 2nd, Garcia would finish with another top 5 in the 3rd spot, driving a new car, Tyson Young, rolled to a 4th place finish and rounding out the top 5 in 5th was Eric Weyer.
Robert Garst has been on a hot streak in the Casey's General Stores Pure Stock division. Garst entered the night winning the last 2 features at HPT. Could 3 in a row be within his reach?
The deck was stacked against Garst as he was scheduled to start 7th in the feature with a lot of fast cars and good drivers in front of him. The points leader in the division, Byron Glotzbach, didn't fare much better on the draw as he would start next to Garst in the 8th position.
Tyler Hinrichs and Colton Miller battled for supremacy early, but Garst and Glotzbach were making their way to the front. Lap by lap, the two, moved up through the field.
After a yellow, Garst made his move to take the top spot on track. Colton Miller would push high in turn 4 giving Garst the prime opportunity to take the top spot.
Garst would put his ride at the front and keep it their for the rest of the event. Garst would finish the trifecta with his 3rd win in 3 races.
The first feature of the night was entertaining, as late in the race several side by side battles were going on for position.
Glotzbach would finish 2nd, 3rd would go to a hard charging David McDonald, AJ Christian pulled in another top 5 finishing in 4th and Randy Kohn finished in the 5th position.
It's been a hit and miss season for Lance Lincoln in the White Line CDL Training B Mod division.
Saturday night Lincoln hit it out of the ballpark as he collected his 2nd win of the season.
Lincoln finished 2nd to Brian Murphy in the 4th heat of the night. This meant that he would start on the outside of row number 4, or would he?
Heartland Park uses fan interaction to possibly mix things up a little bit to start the feature races. A young fan pulled out an inversion ball with a #4 on it and that meant that the 4th row would be the front row for the feature. Lincoln was now going to start on the outside of the front row! A break that he didn't mind getting.
Heath Murry, the pole-setter, and Lincoln would battle for the opening laps before Lincoln gained the upper hand.
Lincoln never broke stride on his run to the checkers. He hit all of his marks and his car was set up for the long haul as he would go on to his 2nd win of the season.
Lucas Isaacs celebrated a strong run finishing 2nd, Heath Murry finished with another top 5 on the season in 3rd, 4th went to Nic Bennett and Dakota Foster, returned to HPT after being absent for awhile, finished in 5th.
The Super 8 at Forbes Landing Saturday Showdown continues next week with race #17 on the season.....
