SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Lance Lincoln

After a tough start to the season, Topeka B Mod racer Lance Lincoln has been making steady progress in Heartland Park Topeka's Saturday Showdown dirt track series.
That fact was driven home last Saturday night when Lincoln, a former track champion, claimed the B Mod feature.
"It was a brand new car, the first time on the track was this year, so it took four or five weeks (to get things figured out),'' Lincoln said. "There were a lot of new things to adjust in the back of it. It took a long time to figure out how to adjust it, but we have gotten better.''
In recent years Lincoln had been hitting the IMCA traveling circuit before coming back to HPT on a regular basis this season.
"Coming from IMCA they take a lot of the adjustability out of the rear of the car so you don't have to worry about making any adjustments,'' Lincoln said. "Coming back out here we have a little more stuff to play with and if you play with it too much it makes you worse.''
But as last week showed, Lincoln has gotten things on the 7X figured out now.
"I think every week I show up here I have a chance to win, but there's 25 other cars that have the same chance,'' he said.
Even though Lincoln, currently eighth in B Mod standings, has cut back on his schedule, he said he's enjoying racing as much as he ever did.
"And then some,'' Lincoln said. "Me and dad (Larry Sr.) went off chasing IMCA points and traveled all over. Then my second son, Cooper, showed up and now it's time to stay close to home and just race when we can.
"I'm glad I still get to do it. I'm very thankful for my dad because I work for BNSF Railroad and I'm out of town a lot. The only day I go out and work on this thing is Saturday, and that's it. Dad does everything Monday through Friday.''
