After winning back-to-back Heartland Park Topeka track championships in the Hobby Stock division, 20-year-old Dylan Whitehead is ready to step up in class in the Super Saturday Showdown Series.

After dominating Hobby (now Pure) Stock the past two years, Whitehead, who lives in Bonner Springs, will compete this season in the B Modified division at HPT.

"I think I'm ready for it,'' Whitehead said. "I guess we’ll find out."

"Maybe it will turn out to be another points championship. That would be pretty nice, but we'll just see what happens. Hopefully it goes as good.''

Whitehead is driving the car that Kyle Covert previously drove in the Modified division.

"It's my cousin's old A Mod and we just made it into a B Mod,'' Whitehead said. "Uncle Jerry and all of them decided that they would throw in and help to make it, so it's probably going to be a pretty solid car this year.''

Whitehead realizes that the competition in the B Mod class will be tough, but he's looking forward to the challenge.

"I've wanted to move up for awhile now but it's just a lot of money to move up,'' he said. "Finally we got hold of enough money to do it."

"I know I can handle it and we'll see what it brings us.''

Whitehead said that the key is to continue learning something every time he takes the track.

"I've got a lot to learn in this class because it's a lot different,'' he said. "It's a different setup for the car so I've got to get used to that again."

"Hopefully I can get used to it quick and we can bring home some wins.''
