Steve Bowers Sr. Memorial Race Adds Extra $$ to HPT.Com Speedway
The regular weekly classes will all be in action for the BriggsAuto.Com Super Saturday Showdown Series; Washburn Tech Modifieds, Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stocks, White Line CDL Training B Mods and the Casey's General Store Pure Stocks. This will be the 2nd year for this special event and it pays extra money in all of the classes. The Modified winner will come away with a cool $1,000 for their efforts!
Steve Bowers Sr. lost his life in a racing accident in 2009. Bowers was a typical racer. He loved to compete and he loved going fast. What a lot of people don't realize is that Bowers was also a family man. It meant a lot to him that he had the opportunity to go to the race track each and every week with his wife and sons.
The Bowers family partnered with HPT.Com Speedway a year ago in efforts to keep 'Big' Steve's memory alive with the Steve Bowers' Sr. Memorial Race. Last year's event was a success both on and off the track. The goal of keeping Steve's memory alive was accomplished.
Saturday night, the races will provide more than enough action to excite the most meager fans.
Last week Darron Fuqua drove to his 6th feature win of the season in the Modified division. Fuqua won going away last Saturday night and not only did he pick up the win, he found himself in a tie for the points lead with Cody Agler when the night ended.
Steve Herrick tied Dave Samuels with his 4th win of the season in the Factory Stock feature. Herrick added some cushion to his points lead and will look to double up again this Saturday night.
The B Mod feature event saw an old face return, Brian Murphy. Murphy was the 2010 B Mod Track Champion at HPT.Com Speedway and it's been awhile since he was in victory lane. Dalton Kirk still has a stranglehold on the top spot in the points, but there are a lot of races left.
Zach Henery is the hottest driver at HPT.Com Speedway in 2011. Last Saturday night, this hotshoe rolled to his 8th win of the season. This is the most wins in any class at the track. Will number 9 come this week or will another upstart take home the extra cash? Time will tell.
Summer start times are still in effect. Spectator gates open up at 6 p.m., hot laps will be at 6:45 p.m. and the racing goes green at 7:30 p.m.
Adult tickets are $10 and kids 12 and under are just $5. Discounted tickets can be purchased online at www.hpt.com.
