SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: JOSH EVERHART
Josh Everhart may not be winning much in the Modified class of Heartland Park’s Super Saturday Showdown Series – one victory on the year -- but he’s proving that if you consistently run up front you’re going to be in the title hunt.
“We’ve had a really good year,’’ said Everhart, third in points and just four points out of second. “I think we’ve only finished out of the top five maybe (four) times and one of them was an unforced error. Somebody spun me out and I had to go to the back and there was also a couple of wrecks or something like that to put us out of it but normally if we’re in there at the end we’re there battling for the win.’’
Although he’d certainly like to have more trips to the victory lane, the close calls make Everhart feel good about what he’s accomplished.
“I seriously think we have 10 cars that at a particular point could win the race,’’ he said. “There’s a lot of cars that are going to be fast so if you can finish in the top five you’ve done something.’’
With family activities starting to dominate more and more of his time, Everhart would like to make a serious run at the track championship this season.
“We had a new baby last year and that puts me at three girls so I knew this year was going to be my last chance to really go get it every weekend,’’ Everhart said. “Coming into that very first race we were after the points but our big goal for the year is to finish every race.
“Whether (the car’s) not right or anything else we just want to take the checkered every race. Then, at the end of the season, the points will play out.’’
