Championship Chase Heads Into Full Swing At HPT.Com Speedway
It seemed just like yesterday was the opening to the 2011 race season. Fifteen races later we have seen some great finishes, heartbreaking moments and a whole lot more. Saturday night fans should expect no less from the BriggsAuto.Com Super Saturday Showdown Series race number 16.
Casey's General Store and Heartland Park are combining forces to bring fans and racers a Summertime Celebration Saturday, August 6, 2011.
The night will be filled with a ton of family fun. Free t-shirts, prizes and a chance to win free gas should have the crowd whipped into a frenzy.
If that weren't enough the racing action on the speedway should give fans a double dose of pure excitement.
Last week Darron Fuqua rolled to his 9th Washburn Tech Modified feature win on the season. Not only was it his 9th win, but it was also his 3rd win in a row.
To duplicate that feat this week, Fuqua will have to do it with a lot on his mind.
Sunday after last week's win, Fuqua learned that his father, former racer, Steve Fuqua passed away. It will be a tough week for the young driver from Topeka, but just maybe being around all the fans and friends at HPT.Com Speedway, it might be just the kind of therapy that this young driver needs.
A host of Modified racers will be looking to knock Fuqua off his perch. Six races are left and everybody is going to try and make up as many points as they can before the championship is decided.
Scott Garst took home the win in the Casey's General Store Pure Stock division. It was one of the most inspirational stories at HPT this season.
Last Saturday night was the one year anniversary for Garst upon receiving a heart transplant. He built a car for his son Tyler, co-flag man at HPT.Com Speedway, and they both decided he should give it a go.
Give it a go he did. Garst won in his first and only appearance in the division this season.
Trouble loomed for the points leader, Zac Henery. Henery had mechanical problems all night long, but still maintains a comfortable lead in the point standings.
The White Line CDL B Mod division feature was another nice outing for the competitors in this class. When it was all said and done, Dustin Thulin became the 4th driver in the class to win multiple features on the year.
Steve Herrick cemented the fact that he is going to be a contender for the points championship in the Super 8 at Forbest Landing Factory Stock class. Last week Herrick notched win number 5 on the season.
Herrick and Dave Samuels have been battling at the top of the point standings and the battle should really heat up with 6 races to go.
Saturday night the spectator gates open up at 6 p.m., hot laps will start at 6:45 p.m. and the racing goes green at 7:30 p.m.
Adult ticket prices are $10 and children 12 and under are just $5.00.
Come out this weekend to the Summertime Celebration with Casey's General Store, Heartland Park Topeka and the competitors of the BriggsAuto.Com Super Saturday Showdown Series!
