Racers don’t like to concede anything, but Topeka driver Jimmy Millard is ready to concede that he won’t win the Pure Stock track championship in this year’s Super Saturday Showdown Series at Heartland Park.
Millard is currently fourth in Pure Stock points while Zachary Henery has dominated the class all season and holds a 76-point lead over the field.
But with a few races left in the 2011 season Millard still has plenty left to race for.
“I’m going for second because I know I can’t catch the leader,’’ Millard said. “I would be happy with second. I’m fourth and second and third and fourth are pretty close.
“I’m still motivated, if I can keep the car together.’’
Millard, who drives the No. 0 car, has run both Factory Stock and Pure Stock at Heartland Park and likes the Pure Stock division.
“It’s an economy class and it’s fun,’’ he said. “This keeps me pretty content. I always want to go faster though.’’
In addition to trying to move up in the season standings Millard has one other goal he’d like to accomplish before the end of the year.
“I’ve had a lot of seconds but no feature wins yet this year,’’ he said. “That’s what I want.
“I’m working on it. I’m digging and digging hard.’’
