Heartland Park Topeka wins top awards in celebration of Kansas’s best attractions

TOPEKA, KS (September 19, 2011) – Heartland Park Topeka took home top honors as the state’s best motor sports experience and the best dirt track, according to Kansas Best 150 – a promotion sponsored by the Topeka Capital-Journal, 580 WIBW and Big 94.5 Country as part of the state’s sesquicentennial celebration.

“Heartland Park offers some of the best entertainment week in and week out across not only Kansas but also a six-state region. We have a jewel in Topeka and one of the best entertainment values around,” track owner Raymond Irwin said. “We are pleased that racing fans and families who have been out to the track voted to recognize Heartland Park as the best motor sports experience in the state. The city of Topeka has supported the track and its improvements over the years and the local businesses are taking advantage of the facilities.”

Heartland Park will host the final Super Saturday Showdown Dirt Series race on Saturday, September 24. In addition to Fan Appreciation Night specials, the track will honor the Glotzbach family, which has added to the purse fund in all classes that night, including an extra $1,000 for the 30-lap Mod A “Race for Hope and Faith.”

The dirt track season concludes with a two-day event October 6-7, featuring the Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) series.  More information about this event will be available soon.

Two weeks ago, the NHRA confirmed that Heartland Park will host the NHRA Summer Nationals May 18-20, 2012. The event, which has been held at Heartland Park every year since 1989, is the eighth event of the 23-race schedule. The Heartland Park event will kick off the summer on its traditional date one weekend before Memorial Day. The event is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN2 and ESPN2HD.

Advance tickets sales will begin in October. Drivers scheduled to appear at the NHRA Summer Nationals in 2012 include all the fan favorites such as multi-championship winning drivers Tony Schumacher and John Force.
