SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Richard Gleason
Blue Springs, Mo. drag racer Richard Gleason isn’t convinced that trying to run two cars in two different divisions is the best way to go, but it seems to be working for him.
Gleason is competing in Heartland Park Topeka’s E.T. Bracket Racing Series and is currently sixth in Pro points and seventh in the Super Pro class heading into the next two rounds of competition this weekend.
“I’ve been trying to incorporate (racing in two divisions) into my setup,’’ Gleason said. “I just kind of enjoy both classes to tell you the truth.’’
Gleason admits that running in both Pro and Super Pro tests him both physically and mentally.
“Actually, I think you’re better off running one because your time’s limited on how much you can spend per car,’’ Gleason said.
“You’re very tired sometimes and making the right decision at the right time (is tough) when you’re exhausted, especially in the heat, but I enjoy it. I like more runs.’’
Gleason, who previously raced at Kansas City International Raceway, is in the midst of a solid 2012 season but is looking to make up ground the rest of the year.
“I’ve kind of fallen (in points) a little bit the last couple of weeks, but hopefully with a good outing I’ll be right back up there,’’ he said.
“This is a wonderful facility. I’ve always liked this place and I plan on staying here.’’
