Like all racers, Burlingame’s Josh Everhart would love to have a ton of feature wins under his belt.
But competing in a talent-laden Modified class in Heartland Park Topeka’s Super Saturday Showdown dirt track series, Everhart was proud to get his first 2012 win at the track (second overall) earlier this month.
“There’s 10 or 12 guys that at any time can win a race out here,’’ Everhart said.
Everhart, who has finished as high as third in the final Modified standings at HPT, is currently fifth in points after a third-place feature finish last Saturday night.
After missing three races early in the season because of his daughter’s illness and breaking in a new car this year, Everhart is satisfied with how things have gone.
“If we come out of this with a top five I’ll be happy,’’ Everhart said. “We’ve got a brand new car, a brand new design, so if we finish in the top five in points, it’s been a good year.’’
And with five races left this season, Everhart is already looking forward to next season.
“We’re going to keep this car,’’ he said. “There’s not going to be a new one so I feel like the learning curve was this year and next year we ought to come out first race and be right there. I’m looking forward to next year.’’
