Casey's Family Fun Night Part two at BriggsAuto.com Speedway

Casey’s Family Fun Night Part Two at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway!

August 17, 2012

By: Larry Lowrey

Topeka, KS – Casey’s General Store, over the years, have been strong supporters of dirt track racing in the Midwest. Earlier this season they sponsored a race night at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway. Everyone involved had so much fun that this Saturday night, Aug. 18, 2012, Casey’s General Store will be coming back to do it all over again.

That means free gas cards to drivers and fans and a whole lot of fun for everyone who comes out to the races!

The 2012 season is working it’s way to a strong finish at Heartland Park Topeka.

In the Washburn Tech Modified divsision Darron Fuqua is working hard to win his 2nd consecutive track championship. Fuqua has a total of 5 feature wins this season. It is not the 11 features he won a year ago, but it is good enough to hold a 149 point lead heading into the final 5 races of the season. Second in the points standings is Steven Bowers Jr. Bowers has yet to pick up a win this season, but look for him to end up in victory lane sometime before the end of the season. Cody Agler, who currently sits in the 3rd spot in the points, picked up a win a week ago and it was his 3rd win of the season. The win might be a good shot in the arm for Agler’s program down the stretch. The Modified division has provided some great racing all year long at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway, look for some great racing down the stretch from all of the competitors.

Last week was another good week for Terry Schmidt in the Super 8 at Forbes Landing Factory Stock class. Schmidt has struggled a bit over the last couple of weeks, but he put that behind him and stormed to the win #11 last Saturday night. At this point in time Schmidt holds a 132 point advantage over the 2nd place driver in the points, Zach Henery. Henery’s absence last week loomed large as he has been the only other driver to pull in multiple victories in 2012. Drivers like Eric Weyer, Steve Herrick, Frank Jaynes, James King and a host of others will be looking to do anything they can to score a win down the stretch.

Everyone loves a great race! Last week the fans at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway were treated to one of the best races of the season. Lucas Isaacs won his 3rd feature of the season in the White Line CDL Training B Mods. Isaacs had to fend off Bryan Rigsby and his brother, Ethan Isaacs, to secure the win. Dustin Thulin and Terry Bivins made it a 5 car race with just a couple of laps to go, but the show was up front between Isaacs and Rigsby. The two swapped paint and the lead over the final 2 laps. Isaacs would get the better of Rigsby in the final turn and run off with the win. Ethan Isaacs, like Fuqua & Schmidt, has a 109 point lead over his brother, Lucas, who is in the 2nd spot. Like the Modifieds the B Mods have seen several different winners in victory lane this season (10 to be exact). The final 5 races should add even more excitement to the mix.

Randal Schiffelbein Jr. continued his superior rookie season last week. It was win #8 from the young driver from Tecumseh, KS. In his first season ever as a driver, Schiffelbein is having a season many seasoned veterans would beg to have. He has a comfortable margin at the top of the points and it doesn’t appear that he will be letting up on the competition anytime soon. Last week with the absence of Jesse Shotts, Tyler Garst continued to step up his program. Garst finished in 2nd place after having won the week before. A tough starting spot made it tough for him to climb all the way to the top spot. The car count average weekly in the Pure Stock division still is hovering at 19.3 per night. A super bonus from where this class was at just a year ago. Many folks have planned to give this division a try in 2013 and the sky seems to be the limit!

Adult tickets are $10, kids 12 and under are $5 and military with i.d. are always free at BriggsAuto.Com Speedway!

Spectator gates open up at 5:30 p.m., hot laps get started at 6:45 p.m. and then the first green flag race begins at 7:30 p.m.
