SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Martin Brown

SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Martin Brown

There's other drag strips closer to Martin Brown's home in Collinsville, Okla. than Heartland Park Topeka.
"It's about four hours from where we're at,'' Brown said. "We're a little bit north of Tulsa.''
But Brown will keep coming back to HPT whenever he can, particularly after picking up an E.T. Bracket Series victory in the Sportsman class in his most recent trip to Topeka last weekend.
Brown's win last Saturday was the first time he had visited the winner's circle at HPT in more than a decade.
''Way back in about 2000 I won a Super Chevy Show here, but it was our first win here in a long time,'' Brown said.
Brown won six straight rounds in his 1969 Chevrolet Nova to win the event, running an elapsed time of 12.386 seconds at 107.96 mile per hour to beat multi-time track champion Troy Ross in the finals.
"We had a very good day,'' Brown said. "The car was dead on.
"We like the competition. The driver's here are pretty good. It makes you want to run against people who are decent.''
And although the distance Brown has to travel may make it tough to get to every Heartland Park event, he'll be back as much as possible.
"I like the way the track's run here,'' Brown said. "It's just very well organized. We can run this track and get done, eat a steak and watch a movie. That's what we like about it. Everything's run well.''
