SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Katie Peters

SPOTLIGHT ON SPEED: Katie Peters

Apart from a Super Pro win earlier this summer, the 2013 racing season hasn't been what Katie Peters was looking for.
But for a couple of other huge reasons -- a college degree from the University of Kansas and a job as an engineer at Goodyear -- the year has been one Peters will never forget.
"I graduated on May 19th and started working on May 20th,'' Peters said. "I was excited. I was glad I graduated with a job, obviously, especially because a lot of my friends don't have jobs yet.''
Peters, who someday would like to own her own business building race cars, is enjoying her start in the business world.
"I'm doing maintenance engineering (at Goodyear),'' she said. "I take care of the machines basically. It's fun because I'm learning about all kinds of different systems instead of just one type of system.''
The racing side of Peters' year has been a struggle, but she still has hopes of turning things around before year's end.
"We've got to work harder at it,'' Peters said.
The highlight was Peters' win on June 16th, but she's still not where she wants to be.
"It made it frustrating because I was not doing good at all and we were having issues and then I won but then I did horrible again,'' Peters said.
But Peters, who has spent most of her life around racing, knows one good weekend could get her back on track.
"Hopefully the next race is better and it will build my confidence up.''
